Archive Appreciation Award:
Society of California Archivists
In 2010 the Society of California Archivists selected us to receive its Archive Appreciation Award. This recognition is given once a year to a California organization that has demonstrated exemplary support for its archives.

The award to IAHS was based on our commitment to professional standards of documentation and preservation, our Board’s consistent support over the years for growth and preservation of our archived materials, and the steadfast support of our members and friends culminating in a successful capital campaign. All of this came together in 2010 with construction of the Frank and Mabel Moote Archive & Research Center, a secure, climate-controlled building for the perpetual storage and preservation of the IAHS collection.

IAHS was the first independent, local historical society in the state to be so recognized. We were also the smallest organization to join the ranks of such prior winners as the A.K. Smiley Public Library in Redlands, the Walt Disney Co., Levi Strauss & Co., Automobile Club of Southern California, and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.

Dave Byrd Award of Meritorious Performance: California Council for the Promotion of History
In 2011 the California Council for the Promotion of History chose IAHS not only for our success in preserving artifacts of San Jacinto Mountains history, but for our swift progress in gathering a large collection of valuable materials, establishing a public presence in the Idyllwild area, and maintaining a high quality museum and other programs to share local history with community residents and visitors. During presentation of the award IAHS was praised as “a fine example of an active historical group within a small community,” one that “has its act together and is doing things right.”
